Woodcut Printmaking, Print on canvas
The primitive simplicity of eggs represents nature’s most refined work of architecture. This piece was inspired by the egg and dart carvings in Ephesus, Turkey. The carvings' efficient strength lies in its arc, a structure intended to contain and protect life. Through being inspired by the egg and dart carving, and its implication of the egg being a shelter to nurture and protect life, I was also inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Fetus in the Womb drawings, where he studied the womb and the anatomy of the fetus. So, I merged the two concepts I found in these two artworks and carved my own design of “shelter” through the technique of woodcut printmaking.
